How We Make Our Clothes
How We Make Our Clothes
Sri Lanka's apparel industry has built a global reputation for responsible manufacturing. Our production sits within that tradition. Every LCY London garment is made in Sri Lanka by skilled workers in facilities that prioritise fair conditions, resource efficiency, and quality materials.
We don't claim to have solved sustainability. But we do believe in being transparent about what we're doing, what we've achieved, and where we still have work to do.
What We Stand Behind
OEKO-TEX Certified Materials
Our fabrics are tested and certified to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which means they've been independently verified as free from harmful substances. This covers everything from the cotton in our Pure Cotton Knit Polo to the dyes used across our Heritage Lines.
Renewable Energy in Production
Our manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka uses renewable energy sources as part of its operations. Sri Lanka's garment sector has been a leader in green manufacturing, and our production partners maintain energy-efficient practices that reduce the environmental footprint of every garment we make.
Skilled, Fairly Paid Workers
Our artisans are full-time employees, not contract workers. They earn above industry-standard wages and work in clean, safe facilities. Many have been with us for over a decade. You can meet some of them here.
From Cotton to Garment
Material Selection
We source pure cotton for our core ranges, tested to OEKO-TEX standards for safety and quality. Our Pure Cotton Legacy page explains why we chose cotton as our signature material and what we look for in every batch.
Production
Garments are cut, knitted, and assembled in our Sri Lankan facility by experienced craftspeople. Each piece passes through an 18-point quality inspection before it leaves the floor. We don't outsource production steps to third parties.
Waste Reduction
We work to minimise fabric waste through careful pattern cutting and repurposing offcuts where possible. This is an ongoing effort, not a finished programme. We're continuing to invest in ways to reduce production waste across our operations.
What We Can Verify
Standard 100 certified fabrics
Quality inspection on every garment

Our Certification
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
This independent certification tests for over 100 harmful substances across every component of a textile product, from threads and buttons to dyes and finishes. It's one of the world's most widely recognised standards for textile safety. Our fabrics carry this certification, giving you confidence in what touches your skin.
Where We're Headed
We're honest about the fact that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. Our current priorities include expanding our use of renewable energy, improving traceability across our cotton supply chain, and finding better solutions for end-of-life garment recycling.
We'd rather tell you what we're actually doing than make promises we haven't kept yet. As we make progress, we'll update this page with specifics. In the meantime, you can learn more about our values on our Brand Culture & Ethos page, or explore our approach to design in The Design Room.
